Meet The Doctors
David J. Prosser, OD
Dr. Prosser grew up in Vermillion, SD. After high school, he attended the University of South Dakota for three years. He was accepted a year early to Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon, where he finished his bachelor’s degree in visual science while attending optometry school. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1989. He married his high school sweetheart , Laura Jorgensen, in 1986. The couple moved to Sturgis in July of 1989, with their then 6 month old daughter, Kelsey.
Laura Prosser, MBA,CPA,CMA is presently employed as interim Dean of the School of Business at Black Hills State University. The Prosser’s have three children, Kelsey, Bennett, and Lynsey. Kelsey is married to Tom Tieszen of Spearfish. She is currently a professional photographer and owns Natural Escape Photography in Spearfish, SD. She has bachelor’s degrees in biology, chemistry, and photography, and a masters degree in integrative genomics. Their son Bennett graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2015 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He is married to Sturgis native, Amanda Larive. Bennett is presently employed as an engineer for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI. Their daughter Lynsey attended Augustana University and has degrees in business and art, with a minor in English. She currently lives in Sioux Falls, SD and works at a marketing agency part-time while spending the rest of her time pursuing her photography business, Lynsey Prosser Photography.
Dr. Prosser, with over 32 years of optometric experience enjoys the challenges that a busy, medically-oriented practice provides on a daily basis. He has been a member of the American Optometric Association since 1985, and a member of the South Dakota Optometric Society since 1989.
Ross F. English, OD
Dr. English, a Black Hills native, is fortunate to provide comprehensive eye care to Sturgis and the Northern Hills Community. He is a graduate of Sturgis Brown High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in cell biology and neuroscience from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. Following his degree from MSU, he pursued his optometry training and received his doctorate degree from Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. Dr. English joined Northern Hills Eye Care in 2015.
Dr. English’s optometric education includes much diversity in his clinical experiences. He was trained in hospital-based optometry at the Mayo Clinic in Albert Lea, Minnesota where he managed cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease. He did a clinical rotation with the Veterans Affairs Black Hills Health Care System in Hot Springs, South Dakota where he had vast experience working with the elderly and the specific problems of the visual system that come with aging. Dr. English did a clinical rotation at the Norton Sound Health Corporation in Nome, Alaska where he traveled to remote, under-served villages, in the Alaska Bush. This externship gave him the opportunity to practice full-scope optometry to a wide variety of individuals from infants to the elderly. Finally, Dr. English worked in a family practice setting at a private optometric clinic in Gillette, Wyoming. This gave him the experience needed to work with local surgeons co-managing cataract and refractive surgery (LASIK) patients. Dr. English also serves on the Board of Directors for the South Dakota Optometric Society.
Dr. English and his wife Alyssa returned home to the Black Hills in 2015 when he joined Northern Hills Eye Care. They have three children: Clara, Emily, and Garrett. Dr. English and his wife love the Northern Hills Community as a place to call home and raise their family. In their free time they enjoy taking in all the outdoor activities that the beautiful Black Hills have to offer. Dr. English practices optometry full time and sees patients at Northern Hills Eye Care Monday-Friday.
Dr. Sarah E. Behles, OD
Sarah E. Behles, O.D. is a native of Garrison, North Dakota. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with a minor in chemistry from North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota. Following her degree from NDSU, she graduated with distinction from Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. During her optometric education, Dr. Behles managed ocular diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy at Cheyenne Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was trained in specialty contact lenses and co-management of ocular surgeries at Eye Center of Northern Colorado in Fort Collins, Colorado. Dr. Behles completed a clinical rotation at Pacific University where she gained knowledge in dry eye management and soft contact lenses. This internship also gave her the opportunity to participate in community outreach programs. Lastly, her rotation at Eyecare Associates P.C. in Fargo, North Dakota gave her the experience to work in a family practice setting. During this rotation she provided care to a wide variety of individuals from infants to elderly.
In her free time, Dr. Behles enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time outdoors with her husband Josh and their golden retriever Bella. She is looking forward to serving the Northern Hills communities.
Adam Jorgensen, MD
Dr. Jorgensen, our visiting ophthalmologist from the Black Hills Regional Eye Institute, sees patients in our clinic the third Thursday of every month.
Dr. Jorgensen comes from Salt Lake City, UT where he obtained his medical degree from University of Utah School of Medicine after receiving his B.A. BS in Biology and Minor in Chemistry. His Medicine Internship was at University of Utah Medical Center and his Ophthalmology Residency at John A. Moran Eye Center. He is a fellowship trained glaucoma surgeon having completed his fellowship at John A. Moran Eye Center.
