Northern hills Eye Care is located in Sturgis, right next to the beautiful Northern Black Hills of South Dakota. We have a satellite clinic location in Faith, SD at their Community Health Care Center. Our practice has been continuously serving Sturgis, the Northern Black Hills, Northwestern South Dakota, Northeastern Wyoming, and Southeastern Montana since 1944. We have a staff of six individuals plus our doctors. For those medical referral patients who find it difficult or inconvenient to travel, we have a visiting ophthalmologist from the Black Hills Regional Eye Institute who comes to our office the third Thursday of every month.

We are a “medical model” optometric clinic and we practice in a “primary care” capacity. What this means is that we do the usual things you would expect an eye clinic to do such as prescribe glasses and fit contact lenses, but we also specialize in the treatment and management of ocular disease including, but not limited to: dry eye syndrome, conjunctivitis, foreign body removal, glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, iritis, and ocular manifestations of systemic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. We work closely with the region’s eye surgeons and co-manage cataract surgery and refractive surgery patients.
In addition to the medical side of the practice, we are a full service optical shop as well. We have a huge eyewear showroom with over 800 of the latest styles of quality frames in stock. We are an OAKLEY, WILEY X, and MAUI JIM eyewear distributer carrying a large selection of their sunwear and prescription eyewear frames. We provide occupational and safety eyewear to many of the region’s industrial companies, including the mines, oil and coal companies.
In 2013, we added a 600 sq. ft. optical finishing lab and have been edging and finishing over 90% of our eyewear orders in-house since then.
Our contact lens inventory is huge, including many of the industry’s leading brands of single vision, toric (astigmatism), and multifocal lenses. We are specialists in difficult-to-fit contact lens patients such as those with keratoconus, astigmatism, and those who need bifocal correction.
We are specialists in taking care of the particular needs of the elderly and young children, including infants. We are INFANTSEE providers. Our facility is ADA compliant and all of our exam rooms are wheel chair accessible.
